Work'n it Out and the Canterbury Youth Transition Service (CYTS) support teenagers aged 15 – 19 years who have left school to get a job, move into training or tertiary study. We run Contact Centres that stay in touch with young people once they leave school and identify those who need support. From there we refer them to individualised Customised Support. Community Colleges has gained significant experience over the years in providing transition services and currently have nine staff in Southern region and one in Canterbury delivering Customised Support. Community Colleges NZ has provided a broad range of vocational and foundation training programmes and National Certificate qualifications for over twenty seven years. Our main focus is providing practical, entry level, student-focused industry training towards employment. Training programmes incorporate NZQA unit standards and will provide students with the skills and knowledge required to pursue their chosen career. With colleges based in Marlborough, Canterbury, Invercargill and Dunedin, Community Colleges offers Job Connection programmes. Our young people are our future leaders and investing in their well being now, will lead towards positive, sustainable outcomes in the future. Jennie has worked extensively with children and young people and finds it very rewarding. She has lots of personal interests including rowing, horse-riding, dancing, music, art and the performing arts. Her personal mantra is ‘Live life one day at a time and have FUN doing it!’ Actionworks Transition Trust The Actionworks Transitions Trust was established in October 2009 due to the need in the Christchurch area for a youth transition service for 15-19 year olds. This is currently in line with other regional Youth Transition services supported by the Ministry of Social Development. The Trust is registered as a charitable entity under the New Zealand Charities Commission and is governed by a team of Iwi, Industry and Education professionals. Whilst being a recently established Trust the current staff of 3 are not new to the transition field having 48 years collective experience in education, training, employment and other youth issues. In additional to these current skills previous roles have included; Inter-agency Collaborative Partnerships, Project Facilitation of employment and training seminars, Service Management, Student Counselling, Truancy Interventions, Therapeutic residential work for ‘at risk’ young men and Iwi affiliations with Kai Tahu, Te Whanau-a- Apanui, Ngati Porou and Ngati Kahungunu. This is a wealth of knowledge and experience of the Youth sector for Christchurch. Actionworks personal advisors provide one to one customised support, interview, assessment, placement and tracking services. Additional support can be offered via phone, text messages, e-mail and letters. In supporting young people through the transition process, and through individual professional skill bases, the Actionworks Transitions Trust staff have a good understanding of the issues and barriers young people face when seeking employment, maintaining employment and trying to better their career or educational goals.
